KEN DELZOPPO BETWEEN LANDMARKS
Return to exhibition
Northern NSW artist Ken Delzoppo's exhibition is about living between two landmarks, Mount Warning on one side
and Byron Bay on the other. It is a landscape Ken has viewed and painted for many years, with his imagery evolving
from realism to more abstracted mark making and collage. This visual language tells Ken's own story through a sort
of symbolism, concentrating on the suggestive rather than the descriptive.
Ken's inspriation is drawn from the marks of mapping and surveying, oriental calligraphy, Fred Williams and Japanese
Zenga painting, to develop his personal set of calligraphic signs to represent landforms such as trees, rocks, cliffs and creeks.
Ken works alone in his studio set in idyllic Huonbrook in the hinterland behind Byron Bay. He constructs his paintings
from torn up Nepalese paper arranged in overlapping layers and combines with more detailed montoype drawings, ink
and 'plain' wash and textural pieces.
One of Ken's work was selected for the touring Jacaranda Drawing Prize in 2004, and he has been exhibiting in NSW galleries for over 20years.
